Founded in May of 1953, by Peter Walsonavich, CATV Service, Inc. was one of the
pioneering cable systems in the country serving Danville, PA with three network affiliate
broadcast stations. By 1955, its service area included the neighboring towns of Milton,
Lewisburg and Watsontown. Also, channel capacity increased to five channels. In 1959, Peter
Walsonavich was the first to make use of terrestrial microwave radio to import independent
TV broadcast stations from New York. This delivered major league baseball and alternate TV
programming to CATV subscribers.
Although Mr. Walsonavich passed away in 1964, CATV Service, Inc. continues to evolve
through the efforts of his sister, Margaret Walsonavich. CATV now provides 75 diversified
broadcast, satellite and pay-per-view channels. CATV currently has over 450 miles of coaxial
plant, and more than 60 miles of multi-tube fiber optic cable and associated equipment. This
infrastructure not only provides cable television but also toll-free dial up and braodband
cable internet through partnership with PenTeleData. CATV employs 40 full time employees in
four separate regional offices providing a wide array of telecommunications needs for 18,000
homes, schools and businesses. In addition, it originates and produces local TV programming
and daily news, weather and sports through it's own affiliates, CCN, the Community Cable
Network.
